[birdky] RPT: Harris's Sparrow in Daviess County

Yesterday afternoon, Amy and I took an unsuccessful trip to see an adult
Harris's Sparrow that has been coming to a yard in south-central Daviess
County for about a month. Despite our poor luck (we apparently spent the
only three-hour period when it wasn't present in the yard every hour or so
yesterday ... it was seen both before and after we were there), the hosts,
Bobby and Jackie Lloyd, have been seeing the bird relatively regularly and
Bobby has some nice photos of it.
Visitors are welcome, but you should call ahead 270/275-0426 a day or so
ahead to let them know. They have two dogs that we did not see but they were
described as friendly but loud barkers. The Lloyd's live at 3166 Greenbriar
Road, DeLorme p. 46, block F-1 (Greenbriar Ch Rd on map). From US 231 near
Pleasant Ridge, take Greenbriar Road west 2.5 miles to a gravel lane with
four or so mailboxes on the left. The Lloyds are in the last house on the
right (red brick single story). The bird is coming in with a substantial
flock of 40+ White-crowned Sparrows (although we could not find the bird
with this flock in a nearby brush pile three times? ? ?).
I will probably make a return attempt for the bird as part of the February
11 Peabody WMA trip if the weather is suitable. It is about 1/2 hour
northwest of Beaver Dam.
Yesterday morning, we drove around for awhile in southwestern Hardin County,
hoping to find some cranes on the ground, but could only spy a distant flock
of 40-50 flying northwest several miles north of Sonora. Late in the day we
got some nice photos of a female Merlin on the Peabody WMA in Muhlenberg Co.
