Fulton Co.
KY Birders,
During my running around today around the Reelfoot Lake area, I happened upon a
couple of interesting birds across the State Line. We had a pair of Blue-winged
Teal at Long Point Unit, NWR. Blue-wings are really starting to arrive, as Jeff
Wilson and I had them at 4 different locations in northwest TN on Saturday.
The other bird was a 1st-winter Lesser Black-backed Gull seen feeding with a
flock of Ring-billed Gulls in field just east of Long Point. This was late in
the afternoon, and at 17:00 the birds all took off, presumably heading towards
the roost. If you haven't looked at TNBirds lately, there is a phenomenal
showing of gulls near Reelfoot Lake in Lake Co. On the weekend of the 12th,
Jeff Wilson and others picked up multiple Iceland and Thayer's Gulls, plus
Lesser Black-back. This last Saturday, Jeff and I had these birds plus an adult
California. Now the count is up to at least 3 Thayer's, FIVE Iceland, 1 adult
California, and at least 2 Lesser Black-backs (counting my KY bird today). This
has been a truly mind-blowing event, and away from the Dams.
If anyone is interested, details can be seen on the TN list at:

I have some photos of the KY Lesser Black-back, and some of all the other gulls
as well, at:
