[birdky] Short-eared Owl and a Peregrine

I am a grad student over at EKU, working with Gary Ritchison, and I am
currently doing my field work on Loggerhead Shrikes. At about 10 this
morning, I was searching for a second shrike at my Kingston site and I
flushed the Short-eared Owl that Gary had spotted a couple of weeks
ago. Then as I was returning to where my fellow field workers were
tracking our radioed shrike, I spotted it again flying over a corn field and
then landing in a tree just on the edge of the field. A little later,
about 11:30 while we were trying to trap the other shrike, I saw a hawk
of sorts emerging from a tree line across the street from us and after
putting my binoculars up to it, I realized that it was a Peregrine
Falcon. We watched it rocket across the field and then around 1 saw it fly
back. So all in all it was a pretty good raptor day: a pair of
Northern Harriers and Kestrels, Red tailed Hawk, Cooper's Hawk, Short-eared
owl, and a Peregrine.
