Highlights of a trip to Minor E. Clark Fish Hatchery and Cave Run today include
a pair of immature Bald Eagles, maybe second or third years, considering the
amount of white on them. Also a blue morph Snow Goose grazed on the grass with
the Canada Geese toward the back of the hatchery. Other birds seen there:
Bufflehead (12-14)
Belted Kingfisher
Great Blue Herons (8-9)
R. B. Gulls (100)
Redtail Hawk
American Kestrel
At the viewing area a few miles down 801 from the hatchery were:
Gadwalls (20+)
Ring Necked Ducks (10-12)
Buffleheads (12)
Hooded Mergansers (8)
Mallards
Canada Geese
On Cave Run lake itself was a Double Crested Cormorant perched on a log near
the shore at Twin Knobs. Other birds there were the usual winter fare of
Chickadees, Titmices, Flickers, Pileated and Downy Woodpeckers, W.B.
Nuthatches, Jays, Cardinals, Crows.
