Cold weather has brought a decent variety of waterfowl to the Reformatory Lake
outside of Buckner, Oldham County. Not sure if the lake will completely freeze
tonight or not ... it was about 3/4 open today. I am still having some trouble
feeling completely confident about calls of Cackling Goose with some
individuals but there are at least 15-20 with the Canadas there. Following is a
list of what was around today, January 29, 2007, in late afternoon:

Mute Swan 1 adult
Canada Geese 500+
Cackling Geese 15-20, maybe 25-30 (wasn't getting great looks at some)
Greater White-fronted Goose 1
Mallard 100-150+
American Black Duck 46 (most I've see in KY in awhile)
Green-winged Teal 35+
Northern Shoveler 40+
Gadwall 112
American Wigeon 20-25+
Ring-necked Duck 30-35+
Redhead 1 male
Bufflehead 2 or 3
Hooded Merganser 4
Ruddy Duck 2
Pied-billed Grebe 1
American Coot 3

bpb, Frankfort
