[birdky] Chukar

I didn't know Jefferson County had Chukars here until today when one slammed
into our patio window and was stunned long enough to get pictures. I know it
is an introduced species but since I had never seen one I was quite surprised
by it.
I just had returned from birding in Jefferson Memorial Forest. They are
sponsoring birding for seniors four times a year. Most of them appeared to be
new to birding. Leader James Crawford pointed out a Cooper's Hawk nesting site.
Eastern Bluebird
American Robins (lots)
Carolina Chickadees (lots)
Tufted titmouse
Red-bellied Woodpecker
Downy Woodpecker
Pilated Woodpecker
White-throated Sparrow
Song Sparrow
Eastern Towhee
Blue Jay
Northern Cardinal
Red-tail Hawk
Mourning Dove
White-breasted Nuthatch
The Horine area at the top of the hill is needing a burn to continue its
excellent sparrow habitat. James told me he has suggested it be burned at
least for five years now, but nothing has taken place thusfar.
