Today after a business meeting in Madisonville, I birded Lake Peewee,
Hopkins County, on lunch break and made a few stops and observations in
route between Russellville and Madisonville.
 
At Lake Peewee, 34 degree air, sustained  winds of 10 mph or more, and light
clothing caused me to limit species numbers to estimates rather than counts,
unless noted with an *.  The follow species of interest were observed:
 
100+ Canada Geese
4 Mallards*
100+ Canvasbacks
150+ Ruddy Ducks
app. 10 Buffleheads
1 Common Goldeneye*
app. 20 Hooded Mergansers
20+ Pied-billed Grebes
50+ American Coots
1 Great Blue Heron*
4 Ring-billed Gulls*
 
Other observations of possible interest in Hopkins County were:  1
Red-shouldered Hawk near Morton's Gap, 1 Sharp-shinned Hawk & 1 Red-tailed
Hawk near Nortonville 1 Great Blue Heron & 1 Belted Kingfisher at Lock Mary
Reservoir in Earlington.
 
As I pulled into my driveway, a Cooper's hawk left the ground across the
street with a small brown object in its talons.  It was impossible to
identify the object.
