The Somerset count was held Saturday Dec. 31 with a total species count of 84.

Count firsts were Mute Swan, American Pipit, MARSH WREN and an INDIGO BUNTING (an apparent male with blue seen in the wings and sides of the bird).

Other highlights included Northern Pintail, 13 Red-headed Woodpeckers, 14 Eastern Phoebes, 382 Cedar Waxwings (waxwings were seen by every party), House Wren, 6 Red-breasted Nuthatches, 1 Loggerhead Shrike (Blaze Valley), Pine Siskin (only the second time for our CBC).

We had about 1/3 the number of Downy Woodpeckers as usual.

Thanks to participants: Judy Brant, Rhonda Bryant, Granville Cox, Steve Denton, Kim Feltner, Gay Hodges, James Kiser, Scott Marsh, Linda McClendon, Tom & Lynda Mills, Arlene Morton, Connie Neeley and Stephen Stedman for all the effort put into the count.

Birding smiles. . . . .
