Last Friday, Dec 30th, Mark Monroe and I banded a hatch-year male Rufous
Hummingbird in eastern Louisville. The bird has been coming since at least
mid-October, but was only heard about thanks to the local Wild Birds
Unlimited store owner, Jack Perry, two weeks ago. This elusive little guy
took us a few trips to finally trap. He is at the home of Randall and Doris
Hancock, 10015 Foxboro Drive, off Dorsey Lane (north off Shelbyville Road
[US 60] between Hurstbourne Lane and Middletown). Randall welcomes visitors,
but would like you to call 502/423-9197 (home) or 502/802-6993 (cell) to
arrange a time to visit. The bird is coming to two feeders in the back yard,
which can be accessed via a gate on the left side facing the house from the
street. You must park carefully on the street.

As 2005 turns to 2006, at last word there were still four Rufous
Hummingbirds at feeders in Jefferson, Jessamine, Knox, and Scott counties.
