Waterfowl at Ballard appear widely scattered as the Ohio river continues to
rise. Few of the 45,000 ducks reported in the Ballard zone were viewable
today. Very few geese are reportedly in the area. Highlights from this
morning include:
Bald Eagle 2
Redtail (dark morph western) 1
Mallard--200
Black duck 2
Widgeon 2
Gadwall 30
Hooded merg 4
Can goose 70
Wht fr-goose 5
Snow goose 45
Horned lark 150
Lapland longspur 5
L. shrike 1
Almost no blackbirds of any species were seen at the local Brewer's hotspots.
Also missed the Spotted towhee that was in McCracken co in Dec. I will
continue to put out corn at this location. Curiously the local flock of
sparrows, cardinals and towhees that use this spot were almost entirely absent
today as were the fox sparrows that have been around the brush piles at this
location.
