[birdky] bky: bird behavior

This morning I observed a Cooper's Hawk nab a mocking bird in my back yard,
drop to the ground, and begin picking it apart. The interesting thing
about this scene was that 5 male cardinals and a WT Sparrow flew to the
privet hedge about 6 feet from the hawk and perched in silence until the
hawk finished off the mocker and flew away.
It was like a ritual gathering over one of their fallen feathered
friends. Why the curiosity? Why hang around so close to this predator?
On another note, you know it is cold in Murray when the gulls fly over
Lowe's and Wal-mart, and the sapsucker is eating privet berries.
