According to both CNN and BBC, you are safe if you do NOT open the
attachment. The attachment names given by Mark Monroe match those on both
On Line networks.
Bottom line is: only open attachments that you KNOW are safe. This
usually means knowing the source and confirming that they sent the message
before opening the attachment.

You're not wrong. It's the same message, but the attachment had already been
stripped before going out to the list. Apparently this individual infected
his computer, which then mailed out a copy to everyone in his address book.
This once again emphasizes the importance of not having any list address in
your address book, especially if you're not careful about which attachments
shouldn't be opened. On one list I belong to there are over 1,000
subscribers, and it doesn't strip attachments. Imagine the possibilities.
There is a simple and safe way to keep the list address handy. Type the list
address in an e-mail and mail it to yourself. Then create a folder, Bird
Lists, in Outlook Express and move it to that folder. Whenever you open the
e-mail and click on the address a new message will open with the address
already in place. Just as easy as selecting it from your address book and no
more risk of embarrassing yourself before such a large audience.
