FYI:
I believe Salato Wildlife Education Center will be ordering some of these to
make available for sale through the gift shop. I will also be ordering some
for educational use for the Department. If other agencies, birding,
educational groups, etc. are interested in ordering some (ie. 100 or more
posters) please let me know ASAP. Thanks.

Subject: SE PIF poster reprinted soon
Greetings SE PIF,
With great assistance from EJ Williams, Chuck Hunter, Madge Lindsay, and
others, we are almost ready to reprint the SE PIF poster titled "Migratory
Landbirds of the Southeast: Valuable and Vulnerable". The first and only
edition (1998) of this full-color, two-sided poster has been out-of-stock
for quite some time. When first released, we printed and distributed almost
90,000 posters to over a dozen states in the southeastern U.S. and the
Caribbean. This hot item sold out in a matter of months. These posters
still grace the walls of many offices, nature centers, visitors centers,
homes, and so forth across the region.
Please let me hear from you if you would like to place a preorder (my
contact information appears at the bottom of this email). The posters come
in multiples of 100 with the average order, thus far, being about 1,200
posters per address. We're still unsure of the exact price per unit, but
they will be in the ballpark of $0.50 per poster (or less). This figure
includes shipping & handling for all preorders; a nice perk indeed. We hope
to submit everything to the printer next month so please hurry. The
development of this poster is a volunteer effort and are being sold at-cost.
As many of you already know, a rule-of-thumb in the printing industry is
that the more we print, the cheaper the unit cost will be. So I am busy
trying to roundup a final headcount of preorders, then I'll have a better
grasp of the cost per unit. Without lots of extra cash around and with
limited storage space, we will NOT be able to order many extra posters.
Please do not put off your order for the next few months. Like before, I
imagine that we'll be sold out in a few months.
If you are not aware of this poster, it measures about 22 x 30" and
highlights 25 migratory birds from the Southeast U.S. and Caribbean on the
front with accompanying text on the back. Also included is a section on the
financial impact of birdwatching and nature tourism in this country. The
information is very readable and designed for just about all ages and
audiences -- from landowners to school kids. If interested, I would be
happy to email folks a thumbnail image of the poster (via two large 2MB
files; one depicting the front of the poster and the other for the back).
In an attempt to cut costs of the posters for everyone, we are still seeking
additional financial sponsors for this reprint job. The minimum financial
contribution is $2,000 and will get your logo placed on the poster along
with the other corporate, governmental, and non-governmental partners. But
I need to hear from these folks very soon. A broad partnership is what PIF
is all about. With this sponsorship, you will get 100 free posters. Your
contribution, most importantly, will help keep the cost down for everyone so
that we can, again, distribute tens of thousands of these posters
everywhere. The more paid sponsors we have on board, the more that ~$0.50
per poster figure will drop. Please help us recruit potential sponsors.
Every penny of these contributions will go towards the high cost of paper,
ink, and printing -- not salaries at Texas Parks and Wildlife or any other
agency or organization.
Once again, the Southeast Association of Fish & Wildlife Agencies (SEAFWA)
has graciously agreed to pay the printer one check when the poster is
completed. This is a tremendous help. After the posters have been shipped
out to those who preordered, we will immediately invoice these folks so they
can send payment to SEAFWA.
For now, I just need the following information from those who are interested
in preorders: (1) how many posters would you like to purchase? (2) can you
or your organization/agency/office sponsor the poster at $2K? (3) what is
the physical address(es) where your posters are to be shipped? Remember,
multiples of 100.
Thank you,
Cliff Shackelford
