Luke F-16 crashes; pilots eject safely
Brent Whiting
The Arizona Republic
Dec. 4, 2006 12:00 PM
Two pilots ejected safely Monday shortly before an Air Force F-16D fighter
crashed in the desert in southwest Arizona.
The aircraft went down in an unpopulated area on the Barry M. Goldwater Range
east of Arizona 85, according to Susan Stout, a spokeswoman at Luke Air Force
Base.
The F-16, assigned to the 62nd Fighter Squadron at Luke, was on a training
mission with two pilots aboard when it crashed, Stout said. The pilots'
identities weren't immediately released Monday.
There was no immediate indication on the cause of the failure, but a board of
officers will investigate, she said.
Luke is the world's largest F-16 training base.
Further information was expected later in the day.
