[AZ-Observing] Re: Mercury In The Morning

Mercury was the last little treat that myself and a couple of the other
"early risers" took time to enjoy before breaking down and leaving Sentinel.
While there was a fair bit of atmospheric distortion it was easy to make out
it's "half moon" like phase but in my 8" SCT no real detail. For me that
made six out of the eight planets plus the Moon I observed while at the
SSSG. I also stopped by Andrew's scope "violet"(?) and observed comet
McNaught so I guess I should have documented it all plus the 32 meteors and
both "ends" of the zodiacal glow. for the "Solar System Challenge". Well
maybe next year....

Thank you, Tom, for getting us back on track on this "observing" list.

view of Mercury in mid-twilight. It's at about 7 o'clock position with
respect to Jupiter. The "Sky Gazer's Almanac" from the January 2005 S&T
shows this as being the best of Mercury's elongations for the year. It is a
couple degrees above the horizon at astronomical twilight, and that's about
as good as it gets from our latitude.
