Jack,
You should try fleece longies, and put the wool layer over the top. And I
don't think a ski bib should cost you any more than $30. Give fleece a
chance.
This isn't the best season to make a mail order recommendation, but I have
always had good dealings with Campmor (www.campmor.com).
