[AZ-Observing] Re: The Last Sentinel-Schwaar Star Gaze the weekend

I agree with Steve and Rosie. This is one of the few sites that is
accessible with my motor-home that I carry my telescope and mount into. =
I
cannot get it into the Antennas site, so I don't go there. Me and my =
son
have gone to Sentinel on several occasions and never had any trouble, =
except
a visit from a AP or ranger, which does not bother me. They were more
interested in looking through the telescope than anything else.

I for one do not look at this as a "good decision". I first met Pierre =
at
Sentinel, and can not place him at any other site in Arizona. In my
(relatively few) years of attending this star party and this location, I
feel inspired by the memories of him in this location. When he'd arrive =
and
begin unloading 6 or 7 telescopes, mounts, binoculars, and sundry other
hand-made paraphernailia, the feeling of cameraderie washed over the =
field,
taking everyone with it. Moving the party somewhere "more convenient" =
for
some misses the spirit of the event entirely, imho.

Rosie and I have visited the Sentinel site on our own many times as a =
dark
site and "road trip" and have NEVER encountered any problems. It is =
close
for us and darker than Vekol, (which is essentially the same as our back
yard).

I can't say I'd attend a star party with Pierre's name on it at another
location. It wouldn't be the same. It may be your last trip there, but =
it
surely won't be ours.
