[AZ-Observing] Re: The Last Sentinel-Schwaar Star Gaze the weekend

I for one do not look at this as a "good decision". I first met Pierre at
Sentinel, and can not place him at any other site in Arizona. In my
(relatively few) years of attending this star party and this location, I feel
inspired by the memories of him in this location. When he'd arrive and begin
unloading 6 or 7 telescopes, mounts, binoculars, and sundry other hand-made
paraphernailia, the feeling of cameraderie washed over the field, taking
everyone with it. Moving the party somewhere "more convenient" for some misses
the spirit of the event entirely, imho.
Rosie and I have visited the Sentinel site on our own many times as a dark site
and "road trip" and have NEVER encountered any problems. It is close for us
and darker than Vekol, (which is essentially the same as our back yard).
I can't say I'd attend a star party with Pierre's name on it at another
location. It wouldn't be the same. It may be your last trip there, but it
surely won't be ours.
