It is compatible with USB2.0 up to 12Mhz, but also backward compatable with
USB1.0.  The speed is really determined by the serial port speed that the
program you are using is selecting.  I really don't think the problem is
with the USB to serial adapter. Are you now running Vista now instead of XP?
The driver that came on the mini-disk of the usb to serial adapter is not a
vista compatible driver.  Also I understand that some programs have problems
with Vista.
Download the latest driver from
http://ftdichip.com/Drivers/CDM/CDM%202.02.04.exe
Be sure you uninstall the old driver first. Use the control panel/add or
remove programs to do this. The driver will be called FTDI USB Serial
Converter drivers.
