[AZ-Observing] Re: Mercury transit experience.

I got a Baptism by Fire (so to speak) introduction to daytime
astrophotography, wrestling with eqpt while observing the transit. Transit
time is best time to do it, lots of time to futz with all the stuff. I used a
Baader film filter (only way to go, they are fantastic) on a 100mm ED
refractor stopped down to 80mm, with Canon 20D camera, with both eyepiece
projection and direct. Images don't look even close to what it looked like in
the eyepiece. Gotta "process" them I guess.

I took a look from my backyard observatory with the Nexstar 8 and an =
Orion
filter. Sure enough there was a little tiny dot on the Sun. And a =
pretty
good sized dot of a decent sun spot, for a change.
Clear Skies;

Hi,
=20
I took my 4" Mak with a Baeder filter over to Chandler-Gilbert =
Community
College so people could look. The teachers were more interested than =
the
students. I enjoyed what one teacher shared. "I'll never get to the =
end of
a sentence and think of a period the same way again." That is too good.
The large sunspot was a nice treat to go with the transit.
=20
Clear skies,
Mark
