I joined the group of "Astronomers of Verde Valley" of Cottonwood and =
the "Sirius Lookers" from Sedona at the RC park between Sedona and =
Cottonwood. It was cold, about 35 or lower. Altitude around 3200 feet. =
(I think) My wife and I arrived about 12:30AM to a group of about 30. =
Some late comers drizzled in until about 3AM. Several times someone in =
the group took "crowd counts" and it was about a rate of 500 an hour. =
Actually, if one saw every one, the count would have been close to 1000 =
for the 4 hours we were there. But, they would have one heck of a case =
of whip lash. (Or eyes in the back of their head) The meteors were all =
over the place. There were several "splitters" and several went thru the =
"Twins" and many thru the Big Dipper pot. I missed the ones by the =
moon. But saw several shoot thru Orion. Many left nice trails that =
lasted several seconds. The clouds that the Wupatki group had did not =
affect us. As we left about 4:15AM, we noted several from the vehicle. =
As we returned to the house in Clarkdale, I watched for a few minutes =
more at 4:30AM and saw several more before the cold took over.=20
