[AZ-Observing] Leonds Roar in No. Arizona

Brent and JoAnne Archinal, my wife Alice, one-year-old son Matthew and I
observed the 2001 Leonids from County Line Rd about 60 miles west of
Flagstaff. We arrived at about 5:00 UT and were soon treated to a bolide
scudding east-to-west low in the southern sky, an indication of the feast to
come.
After a short nap, we settled in for an incredible display. Brent recorded
detailed notes on his mini-cassette recorder. I watched, shot about 65
exposures, oohhed and wowed in disbelief.
During the peak, roughly 10:15 to 10:30 UT, Alice and I stood staring at Leo,
watching streak after steak of light burst forth from the radiant. It was
like standing on the observation deck of a starship and watching the universe
whip by. Matthew was sleeping. Perhaps he'll have a chance to enjoy a meteor
storm in 2098.
Miraculous!
