[AZ-Observing] Re: The weather....

I concur with Brian's comments. The weather doesn't look promising= for
anywhere in Arizona tonight, as it appears some heavier and heavier cl= ouds
will be coming into the middle and mid-north parts of the state tonigh= t,
including several active convective cells. Coconino Astronomical S= ociety
members had been planning to observe from northeast of Flagstaff at =
WupatkiNational Monument (Doney Mountain picnic area), but we're now looki=
ng at whether there is some way to get to the northwest side of this weathe=
r system. It looks like the northwest edge of it is currently in sout= hern
Nevada and moving southeast, so it is possible that by sometime tonigh= t it
will clear up well in the northwestern corner of the state, or in the =
extreme north and in southern Utah. However, there's a balancing act = here
in that if one goes too far west (e.g. into California), there is a se= cond
stronger system approaching that also looks like it will be bringing c=
loudsin later tonight. The trick will be trying to get between these= two
systems (where the water vapor images are showing very clear and trans=
parent skies) during the early morning hours when the Leonids peak. R= ight
now we're thinking of waiting until ~ 6 PM and then making a decision = on
the best direction to go.

In any case, if anyone has any ideas for= good observing sites in the
northwestern or extreme northern (north of the= Grand Canyon area) part of
the state, I and I'm sure others would be inter= ested in hearing of them.
Otherwise we'll probably just look for some= isolated parking lot, boat
dock, rest area, etc. in the areas of interest.=

Since the= moisture plume is being dragged along rather than pushed
by the low tha= t is departing to the northeast in NV/ID, prospects are
pretty bleak for= the clouds clearing tonight. Without driving a long ways
about th= e best we can hope for are holes in the clouds.
