I was once investigated at a local park while doing some "sidewalk astronomy"
after a concerned citizen reported a "rocket launcher looking device" was
pointed at the Sky Harbor flight path. Even after showing the officer how my
dob
worked, he still wanted to look in my car. Face it, astronomy is a suspicious
act in itself. If we were normal we'd be at the bar drinking beer or at home
watching TV. Maybe the solution is some kind of astronomer identification card
we can present when pulled over to shorten the time in custody, or even
register our observing sessions to the local authorities beforehand. Peace,
baby.
