The ring material is preferentially aligned by the gravitational
effects (maybe the magnetic effects, too---but I don't know), so there are
indeed differences in brightness and polarization between the two ansae.
Thus differences in appearance such as you (and many others historically)
have observed are not unexpected. You might read through Kerr and Elliot's
rings book for some background.
