[AZ-Observing] Re: Image Question

I was away for a few days. Paul Dickson was kind enough to email me a copy of
the message from Brian I did not get for some reason. It had a lot of useful
information. In it Brian says:
"Then finally there's Stan's eyes. As someone noted, scattered light in the
eye, including reflections of the very-bright planet off the retina, back off
the lens/cornea, and then into the fovae, can cause bizarre effects. Can you
make observations that show the problem is not in your eye? Are you even aware
of the specific effects your eye induces in your vision?"
This is a good point. I think there is a good chance it could be my eye. I have
not thought enough about this enough yet to come up with a test to show it is
not my eye, but there is one point of the "edge effect" that maybe I did not
make clear. I am not looking at the edge with my eye over the center of the
eyepiece lens. Instead it is at the edge of the eyepiece looking toward the
center. This orientation might eliminate a lot of rays of light bouncing off
you know what in my eye that may be washing out the image.
Brian also said:
"So where's Pierre when you need him? I'd bet he'd give you an earful on this
subject, and also be able to take a look through the back-end of your telescope
(sans eyepiece) pointed at the daytime sky and tell you a dozen places where
scattered light is coming into the focal plane, and what to do to fix it."
Regarding Pierre, he collimated my telescope when he was here at one of the
events at my lot. He thought it had a good image and did not mention a possible
baffle problem. My opinion after reading all this is that it probably is my
eye. Maybe someone could tell me, at some time in the future, what they see
through my telescope when looking at Mars or another planet.
