Bill,

I found both Phobos and Deimos last week unfiltered in my 14.25". Phobos
happened to be at western elongation that night, which is a must to see =
this
11 mag object. Once I knew where they were, I found it surprisingly easy =
to
hold them both using direct vision. However, I saw them first using =
averted,
centering Mars and then looking away from the planet.=20

Even at elongation Phobos is only 1 to 2 diameters away from the disc of
Mars, so it is the tough one to get.

Knowledge of where they are supposed to be in relation to the disk of =
Mars
is a must, IMHO.
