Tom, first I'd like to make it clear that last night at Cherry Rd was the
best observing conditions - at Cherry Rd - that I can remember. We've had
many enjoyable nights there over the years, some with excellent observing
conditions, but last night seemed to be better than any I can remember. Of
course we have had better conditions elsewhere in the past.
Now to your question. My rating for the night was intended for last night at
that site. I wasn't aware of the run of observing conditions referenced by
\Brian. The last night I was out was to observe Deep Impact last week, at
Stan Gorodinski's, from Dewey, AZ. I thought the night was good for
observing, but not as good as last night. For the record I gave it 7's for
both seeing and transparency.
I like to speak with folks from outside of Arizona to help understand how
well we have it here. And we do have it good here, sometimes we get quite
spoiled and have a higher standard. I often remind myself of the image of
our tiny vulnerable planet taken from satellite(s) at night. We do have
someproblems with light, but no were near what they have from the Great
Plains to the Atlantic Ocean. We got it good! Regardless of my poor
grammar!
Hope this helps,
aj

time to time. I rated the seeing and transparency as an easy 7/10 for both
and I could easily be talked into 8/10! AJ, When you give the transparency a
rating, is this an assessment of the night independent of where you're set
up, or is it a combination of how transparent *and* how dark the site is? To
bring this back around to Arizona observing, we should appreciate our
state'slighting ordinances. The lighting around Michigan is bad beyond
words.Tom
