[AZ-Observing] Re: Flagstaff nighttime cloudiness/sky brightness

Four years ago when I was organizing the Mormon Mountain Star Stare for the
Coconino Astronomical Society, I used Brian's nighttime cloudiness data to
find the best half-months for observing in northern Arizona. Using his data
from
1979-2002, June was obviously the best month of the year. June averaged 14
photometric (cloud-free dusk-to-dawn) nights and only 8 1/2 totally unusable
nights over that period. When I broke it down to half-months, the first 15
days of June were the clear winner with an average 8 photometric and only 3
unusable nights. The surprising (to me) 2nd place winner was the back half of
September, which averages about 7 1/2 photometric nights and about 3 1/2
unusable nights.

Hi Brian,
Great data. Based on a quick glance it looks to be that June is far and away
the best month to be up there. Which means our odds of having a spectacular
night at 5 Mile Meadow this week end are very good. Current weather supports
Saterday night as beening just that... We will see. Thank you for posting
your data..
