That's what I see. I think it would take one strong "Anti "jet stream to
blow the contrail west. My guess is they mistook Jupiter for Venus.

Well, unless this was a rare (and I believe unprecedented) launch in the
westerly direction, I don't see how the arrangement described could be seen.
Perhaps the winds were such that the contrail drifted west and got aligned
as described?
