[AZ-Observing] Re: Astro Misspellings

Phrases that made perfect sense at 3am at the telescope can sometimes
look a little funny when read the next day after a proper rest. I have
a few of them myself. I look at the words trying to figure out just
what I meant. I usually edit the descriptions when putting them in the
database, correcting misspellings, writing out abbreviations and
checking the magnitude and angular separations against the charts for
accuracy.
I don't bother with getting north up in the drawings, way too much
trouble with a dob, just make sure it is annotated properly. I will
often check against the DSS image to see if have the orientation right.
I usually just note which way things are drifting in my unguided scope
and usually get it right.
Another problem with the drawing is that I use two different scopes,
Deep Violet, my large dob, and an 11" Nexstar. Unfortunately they
mangle the image in completely different ways. Particularly annoying is
the SCT's reversal of right to left (east to west if looking south to
the meridian). This leads to drawings that are reversed from the
drawings done at the dob. I gave up on correcting this and just note
east or west as well as north.
