NGS BRE explorer will also comes bundled with Pocket Topo, a PDA version
that work with both Palm & pocket PC OS's. Ask me at the next meeting. And

If you have a PDA you might want to consider the Delorme software. The have
software that you can edit your maps with your own tracking/trail info.  
www.delorme.com  You can also download satellite images/topo of locations to
use in the pda.  The have GPS units that will connect to the pda, and also
Bluetooth gps units.

  When looking at the Garmin site there was a link for US-TOPO and national
parks west. Will these show the forest service roads or as Thad says did you
get them from national geographic? See the site, Thad you can zoom in for
examples of the topo maps from their site. I only went there because
Sportsman's Warehouse was having a sale last weekend. see this one.
