This might be a cool option for those who want to come up.

Anyone in the Central to Northern Arizona area might
consider stopping off at Red Rock State Park in Sedona, AZ,
on Friday 11 Jun 2004 and Saturday 12 Jun 2004 for the 19th
Annual Greater Verde Valley Astronomy Festival.

-There is (very) laid-back viewing of the Sun in the
afternoon, beginning at 1PM.

-There are two talks at 6 and 7PM. The 7PM talk on Saturday
night will be a special treat: It will feature a "verbal
history"-style interview of Professor Russell A. Nidey, who
invented numerous devices to point rocket payloads at the
Sun, participated in the launch of more than 40 scientific
rockets, was on the first committee that studied how to make
an orbiting telescope, and also designed and built the
World's Largest Equatorial Photo-Platform.

-A "star walk" given by local amateur astronomer, musician
and comedian Cap Capella at dark.

-Last but not least, the star party from dark until 1AM.
There will be at least one 20" telescope for your viewing
pleasure, plus many others. Also, attendees who wish to do
so may use the Equatorial Platform to take time exposures of
the sky with their cameras. All that is needed is a 35-mm
camera, 400-speed film, a shutter cable release, and a
little patience!

Admission to the event is FREE, but admission to the park is
$6 per carload of 1-4 people. No one will be allowed into
the park after 9PM, but we will allow you to leave. (This
isn't the "Hotel California", after all!)
