[AZ-Observing] Re: GCSP

A few of us from the Coconino Astronomical Society are planning to go to
the GCSP on Saturday and/or Sunday nights. At the moment the weather
forecast looks reasonable, i.e. "mostly clear" or "mostly sunny". The
forecast discussion for northern Arizona is predicting a strong low over
the weekend to keep it dry, but I would expect scattered afternoon and
evening clouds from that, which would likely burn off by mid-evening. The
discussion also indicates winds will be strong then, so that may be a
problem for bigger 'scopes.
The more serious problem than the weather will likely be smoke from forest
fires. Today's AZ Daily Sun reports a big fire on the Powell Plateau,
which is northwest of Yavapi point (maybe the smoke will block out the
lights of Las Vegas...). That may cause serious problems for the north
rim GCSP as it's not expected to be put out until the monsoons arrive in
July.

I guess the weather isn't looking to promising for the GCSP; are very many
people planning on going?
