[AZ-Observing] Tucson Electronic Billboard Hearing
- From: "Peter Argenziano" <pargenz@xxxxxxxxxxxxx>

The rescheduled public hearing before Tucson Mayor and Council on an ordinance
to expressly prohibit billboards with electronic displays or rotating
"tri-vision" panels will take place has been set. It is this coming Monday,
June 23, 2003, 7:30 P.M., Mayor and Council Chambers, 1st Floor, City Hall, 255
West Alameda Street, and is Agenda Item #12 for the Regular Meeting.
Again, please plan to attend this hearing and, if you have not yet done so,
contact Mayor and Council in support of the ordinance. Make sure you reference
the meeting date and agenda item number, as many of the previous communications
spoke against electronic billboards but did not link the comments to the public
hearing. If you have previously contacted Mayor and Council please do a brief
followup referencing your previous communication and noting that since the
public hearing was rescheduled you wanted to make sure your views were noted
for this one. The easy way to do that is through the Mayor and Council email
address or "hotline" below.
This ordinance is expected to pass, but there are other billboard issues in the
city that are languising or backsliding so that this public hearing also
becomes a vehicle to remind Mayor and Council that these billboard issues are
important to the community.
Contact Mayor and Council as follows:
Mayor and Council Hotline (your taped audio message will be transcribed and
delivered to each member of the Mayor and Council): 791-4700
Email (your email will be forwarded to each member of the Mayor and Council):
mcweb@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Mail (Letters): Mayor and Council, PO Box 27210, Tucson AZ 85726-7210

Also, there has been no further action on the electronic billboard bill (SB
1138) in the Arizona State Legislature. Governor Napolitano signed the budget
yesterday (after many line-item vetoes) and the legislature is working on four
budget "trailer" bills and about six very late introduction bills, including
the three "big" bills (convention centers, university research infrastructure
financing, and special health care districts). It is doubtful that they can
finish all of this this week, but the end is in sight.
