Position Summary:
Steward Observatory at the University of Arizona seeks candidates
for an
Observatory Technician (General Maintenance Mechanic) to assist the
Observatory Site Supervisor with maintenance of telescopes, domes,
dormitories and utilities systems. The selected candidate will
operate and
maintain facility equipment and assist with instrument changes.
The work
will be performed at 7000- to-11,000 foot elevations on Kitt Peak, which
is located between Tucson and Sells, Arizona.
Note: Successful candidate is required to complete HOV vehicle
certification and obtain a Class B Commericial driver's license
within six
months of employment; HOV training will be available through Steward.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Operates and maintains facility equipment.
Performs maintenace on telescopes, domes, dorimitories and utility
systems.
Assists with the set-up of telescopes and instruments for
observing runs.
Minimum Qualifications:
Four years of general maintenance and repair experience.
Possession of a current Arizona Type D driver's license upon employment.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with telescopes and knowledge of telescope operation.
Basic computer skills with DOS, MS Windows and MS Word.
