[AZ-Observing] Saturday night - Cherry Rd.

Well Steve Coe, David Fredericksen and myself found a temporary spot for
observing last night. While toping our fuel tanks at Cordes Junction we
decided to see if we could pass by Cherry Rd and reconnoiter the area. Highway
169 was open but Cherry Rd was blocked off about 200 ft off the highway, past a
little
seen turn-off to the left. We took this turn-off (before the barricade!) and
it turned into an open area of a couple of acres. Quickly deciding this was as
good as it gets under the conditions and setup by a shade tree. Soon we were
joined by Paul Lind.
Now the drawback of this site. Vehicles leaving Cherry, AZ come down the road,
down because it is above the highway, to the north and their lights easily
disrupt night vision; even before they get to the highway. The traffic on 169
didn't taper off until around midnight - that is a very busy road. Did I say
drawback, how about drawbacks?
One thing this has taught me is the site at Cherry Rd, behind the gate, where
we normally go is well hidden from all of the vehicular traffic and their
lights.
All things considered this was much better than toasting on the desert floor as
views the summer goodies were well worth the effort!
