Thad,
I had a great time at Cherry Rd. Didn't count but I would say there were
about 10 vehicles in attendance. I stayed all night with a few other guys
including Rick Tejera. There were some high clouds hear and there all night
but everything I wanted to see was in the clear most of the time. Seeing
was very poor after dusk, 3-4/10, (based on my 10" D-K Cassegrain) but it
was plenty dark and transparent. My scope hates jiggly air and I could not
observe Jupiter or double stars so I switched to DSOs even though I know
virtually nothing about them. Steve Coe and a few other fellows helped me
evaluate M104 and understand what I was seeing (or failing to see) and I got
to compare the view in a 13" Dob which was very helpful. Objects like M13
were just stunning even in the poor seeing. I drove up with Kimball Corson
who had huge binoculars setup on a tripod that provided outstanding wide
field views of galaxies and star clusters.
The temp went down to 42 deg by daybreak. I sacked out about 1am but was up
well before dawn hoping seeing had improved but no luck. Nonetheless it was
a fine night in very pleasant surroundings.
I am hoping for better seeing this weekend at the Mormon Mountain affair.
Regards,
Bill Wood

Subject: [AZ-Observing] Howwuzit at Cherry Rd?
Hey all,
Didn't see any reports on how Cherry Rd was this past weekend. Just
wondering seeing how I was stuck at home.
