     There's been no major volcanic event in more than a decade, and
indeed this was a relatively _bright_ eclipse.  I estimated the magnitude
as about -2 (slightly fainter than Jupiter) at mid-eclipse.  On other
occasions, I've seen it as faint as +3.5 to 4 (i.e. a factor of ~200
fainter!) only months after big eruptions.
