Greetings,
Earlier this week Senate Bill 1138 narrowly passed in the House of
Representatives by a 31 to 28 vote, the bare minimum needed to pass.
It will now move on to the Senate, and will be voted on early next week. Please
consider writing your Senators, urging them to oppose this bill. In addition to
the obvious reasons for opposing such legislation, you should also voice your
opposition to the process.
Senate Bill 1138 began as a measure to increase membership on a tax review
committee from 10 to 12. But, through the use of 'strike-everything amendments'
the content of the original bill was gutted and replaced with its current text.
Such tactics are used hundreds of times each legislative session in a
deliberate attempt to exclude the voting public from the process. It may be
within the 'rules', but it is just plain unfair!
A note to all Senators is warranted, but one in particular can be swayed to
opposition because he, too, is deeply concerned about the use of the
strike-all: Senator Slade Mead. His email address is: smead@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Senator Mead's vote is critical in defeating this legislation.
Also, here is a link to the full Senate roster:

Thank you for your help!
Keep looking up,
