[AZ-Observing] Green Laser-Pointers

Hi,
If you look at the link Paul quotes below, there is a model (GLV5) that
costs $99 in quantities of 6 or more. Find 5 other people wanting one, and
off you go!
DeHarpporte Trading Company (www.laserpointer.net)
I have one of these and it is as bright as the more expensive models. This
is the way to go if you don't want to dish out the $235 some sites are
asking for.
I do not find the light offensive. On a dark spot on an average Gilbert
street with street lights, I have trouble seeing the beam if I stretch my
arm out full extension. At dark sites like Vekohl, 15 ft is a fair estimate.
In actual usage, they are great for pointing out an area that you are
looking at - 30 seconds of usage at a time? The lasers do not like to be
left on, so even if someone were to use it on their scope, I doubt the light
output would be any worse than some of the brighter red lights that show up
here and there.
Having said that, I don't know how effective they would be at a public star
party at well lit places like scottsdale CC. You would have to work with a
small group of ~5 at a time. However, when used at a dark site public star
party like GCSP, I think they would be more effective.
Anyway, this is a precursor to the days when we will all have telescopes
with adaptic optics and our own laser reference beams!
Tom
