Greetings,
Recently I received an invitation from Paradise Valley Community College to
visit their observatory. I was contacted by Dave Hellmann, who is the
astronomy/engineering/physics labtech at the college. He asked that I share his
invitation.
Apparently they have lots of nice gear and not many people using it. Among
their goodies: a Celestron 11 on a Losmandy G-11 with Gemini, an ST9E CCD,
Coronado NearStar (h-alpha) scope, about a dozen piers... plus a lot more gear!
They also participate in the Telescopes in Education Program - remotely
controlling 14" and 24" telescopes on Mt. Wilson. Users can download their
images.
They have an open lab on Thursday evenings, from 7:30 to 10:00 PM. Other nights
can be scheduled.
Dave is looking to get local amateur astronomers involved in what sounds like a
fantastic program. He is also open to hosting club meetings.
I am definitely planning to check out their facility and I encourage you to do
the same.
The college is located in NE Phoenix, around 32nd Street and Union Hills.
