[AZ-Observing] Re: Mira bright

Last Sunday and Monday nights I observed Mira when it was very roughly mag 3
from my backyard in Tucson, nice bright and an orangish tint through
binoculars.
I also took a couple of spectra with an SBIG SGS and the 14", see
http://www.xanaduobservatory.com/mira.htm
The spectra show interesting absorption bands caused by titanium oxide, as
well as Hydrogen emission lines.
Hopefully it will clear out soon so we can observe it again, nice to see it
so bright.

Here's the "non-validated" light curve of Mira for the past 90 days from the
AAVSO site:

http://tinyurl.com/233kcx

If you want to do the same for any popular variable, start at
http://aavso.org/ and then click on "Light Curve Generator". I can report
that the designations Mira, o Cet, o Ceti, and omicron Cet are not
recognized. Omi Cet is recognized.
