Wow Jon, that is a great image! Keep up the good work.
Here is the shot I got of M42 from my observatory. It is with the RC12.5"
and STL11000 with a BIG total of 10 minutes exposure, but does not even come
close to yours. It is amazing what you can get with a lot more time put
into it.

Subject: [AZ-Observing] New Image - M42
Hi All,
Here's an image where I combined the tremendous resolution achievable with
my long focal length telescope (F/9) with the wonderful light gathering
capability of my short focal length telescope (F/3). It's a photo of M42
that consists of deep color data taken with the F/3 scope and luminance data
taken with the F/9 scope. I had to use a mosaic of images to create the
luminance image because one shot by itself only captured a small area of the
nebula. The 100% sized image is 35 megapixels and the tif format file 100
megabytes. My computer had a hard time coping with this large an image.
The data was acquired over 3 nights in December and January. There really
is a lot going on in this nebula when you take a close look!
