Folks,
Arne Henden at USNO-Flagstaff was nice enough to get a first stab at
a BVRI photometric sequence in the field of McNeil's Nebula and its
associated erupting star. This was done with the Navy 1-m telescope + CCD
probably tonight (13 Feb UT), which is a stable photometric one but with
poor seeing. Arne's source file is:
ftp://ftp.nofs.navy.mil/pub/outgoing/aah/sequence/mcneil.dat
Arne has piles of similar stuff for other variables in the same directory.
I have taken this and trimmed out a few faint stars with large errors
in the photometry and rearranged the column headers. The uncertainties are
strictly from the fit to the standards from a single night, so have a likely
zero-point error of ~0.02 just from this. The uncertainties are listed with
a minus sign to indicate they are single-night errors. Note that the fainter
stars are pretty rough. Arne's coordinates are in decimal degrees in both
RA and Dec, and were probably done against UCAC2 (or USNO-B1.0 if there
weren't enough stars).
I have flagged the two brighter stars northeast of the nebula by name.
The previously estimated magnitude of the first wasn't too bad, but the
fainter star is quite a bit fainter than guessed (the visual magnitude will
be about mv=16.7).
