[AZ-Observing] ASU Star Party With David Levy and Friends

Thanks to Greg Askins for mentioning the article in the Republic about the
star party tonight at ASU. I cut out of the EVAC meeting at the break
(shame on me) to stop by the star party on my way home. It was a
well-attended event with eight telescopes set up thanks to Dean Koenig and
his friends from Starizona.
As usual, David was bombarded with introductions from people familiar with
his work. I had a chance to chat briefly with him. His radio show, "Let's
Talk Stars", is still going every week on a Tucson station, and he
continues to write the column for S&T. He is also working on an automated
comet search program from his home in Vail.
Dean Koenig should teach classes in how to be an astro-tourguide. He has a
command of the necessary facts, and puts them into easily understood terms
with great enthusiasm. I was sort of caught up in watching his style as
mostly ASU kids looked through his big refractor. If I had half his
energy, I'd be doing great. When asked who he was, not once did he use the
opportunity to plug his shop; he just said, "we're with David." .
Based on the turnout and great sky conditions, I would guess that the group
is very happy with the event.
