Although made using a higher-end CCD, the discovery images were
taken with a 76mm telescope.
Among the most useful instruments working right now for a number
of purposes is a 200mm f/2.8 telephoto lens + CCD called 'ASAS-3':

...which covers the entire southern sky every few days and produces
standard V band photometry for stars between about mag. 8 and 13.
The data become available on the Web about 5 minutes after each image
is taken. Pretty good for a 70mm aperture.
