[AZ-Observing] Re: Why Is M44 The Beehive?

I guess I don't see M44 as more of a swarm of bees than M35 or M45, for
that matter, but I'll go with it, and not lose any sleep thinking about it
tonight.
I wondered if there may be a Utah connection, as the beehive is a common
LDS symbol. I was not disappointed to learn that the Beehive Cluster is
Utah's astronomical symbol. Dubhe is the state's centennial star, by the
way.

I propose that Arizona adopt the California Nebula as its astronomical
symbol just so California can't use it. And we'd better start thinking
of a centennial star. Dubhe is 125 light-years away, so Alkaid would have
been a better choice for Big Dipper stars.
