I contacted Bob Petrie of the AZ republic, whose column appears in the
Valley and State section, page 2, during the week. I was looking for an ADOT
contact from him since he regularly talks to ADOT people about road topics.

I was not successful in getting an ADOT name, but was successful in getting
his interest in the astronomy angle of the rest stop, which he wasn't aware
of.

He said he was planning to get an article in the paper on Tuesday, regarding
rest stops etc., and would be happy to include some information about the
concerns of the  local amatuer astronomers. I told him about IDA, SAC and
EVAC. I have no idea what he is going to write, but he feels our best chance
is to make everyone aware of IDA guidelines now at the planning stages. I
would hope that ADOT would realize that by following IDAs guidelines, they
will avoid headaches further down the road with at least one group of
people.
