This was one of the features of Xara that I sorely missed when I was
using Xara more than ArtWorks.
Now I use ArtWorks more than Xara it is not so bad. I now tend to use
a separate layer for each object rather than group it. This way I can
use select if I wish to treat it as group while mantaining the ability
to work on an individual component.

might this include the ability to colour an inside select?
